Since the ceasefire of 1998 and the subsequent Good Friday Peace Agreement, Markethill and district has been given the peace and the space in which to grieve for those it has lost. The names of the dead live on in the memories of the families and community they left behind.
Markethill remains a mixed community, shaped by generations of conflict and conciliation and yet it is a town that has chosen not to go back but rather to look forward to a peaceful future. Recent investment and a multitude of cross-community activities make this a town in which people want to live. The number of new houses being erected in the area is testament to the resilience and recovery of this area.
Markethill and district looks forward to a peaceful future in hope and optimism.
