The area in and around Markethill has many fine examples of early cottages and farmhouses. There are a number of "big houses" which, although owned privately, have been opened to the public on European Heritage Open Days. There are, also, many listed buildings, --buildings that are protected because of their special built-heritage significance. Another major feature of the area is, of course, Gosford Castle.
